CTE Certification - Health Science Education CPE
Welcome to the University of North Texas Health Science Technology Education Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program.
The Applied Technology, Training and Development program offers the option to pursue HSTE certification as a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) candidate. This program is for those who have met the eligibility requirements and do not plan to use their HSTE certification courses as part of a masters degree. The requirements to complete the certification process through the HSTE CPE program are modified from completing the HSTE certification for graduate credit, and the cost is somewhat less. To enroll in courses as a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) student, please complete the CPE Admissions Form.
The course requirements are similar, but grading is pass/fail rather than a letter or numerical score. The courses taken as a CPE candidate cannot be used toward a Master's degree. It is important to note that the CPE option does NOT grant any type of "university credits." For those interested in a master's degree, please return to www.lt.unt.edu.

Instructional Internship Information
It is an SBEC requirement that all teachers be mentored while they are enrolled on a probationary permit. The two semester sequence of Instructional Internship is offered only during the fall and spring semesters; because it requires you to be teaching your students in your classroom. You may enroll in an internship once you have completed any two of the four pedagogical (PPR) certification courses. Or, you may enroll in the internship if you are concurrently enrolled in two of the courses.
During the internship you will be working with a campus-based mentor, a university coach and a university supervisor. The campus-based mentor is paid a fee each semester from a portion of your tuition. The campus based mentor will be working with you to assist you in the transition to your new profession as an HSTE teacher. The mentor will also be the person to observe as you present some of the activities in your electronic portfolio (developed in your coursework).
Your university coach will be in contact with you on a weekly basis to address your issues and concerns as well as to provide helpful guidance and suggestions. In addition to your campus based mentor and your university coach, you will also be working with a university supervisor. A mentor guide and an instructional internship guide will be made available to you and your campus based mentor.

If you have received your official Career Development Plan or the unofficial worksheet, please complete the CPE Program application. Instructions and address are included on the Application Form.
Registration Eligibility
Once you have received your unofficial Career Development Plan worksheet from Dr. Wircenski or your official plan from Student Advising Office AND you have sent in an application to the CPE Program, you can register for courses.
Instructions
Approximately 6 - 8 weeks prior to the first day of class each semester, there will be an active link on the CPE home page. That link will take you to a simple online registration form to submit. After submission, you will receive a confirmation page to print out. The submitted information will be downloaded into a database for our office.
There may be occasions when the link to the database may not be working correctly, even though you get a confirmation page. It is a good idea to email us at hstecpe@unt.edu afterward and ask that we check for the received information. Please allow 2 -3 days for your answer, especially during registration times.
The confirmation page will have your login information, instructions for accessing your course, payment reminders and the date of the first class day.
