Master's of Science in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems
CECS offers a master's of science in two areas of emphasis, either may be completed thorugh online courses:
| Instructional Systems Technology Instructional Systems Technology is designed for professionals in corporations, education, and the military. The track provides students with theoretical and research foundations, competence, and experience in the areas of instructional design and development along with instructional technologies and systems. Students in IST are immersed in creating, managing, and evaluating instructional systems and media. These competencies are demonstrated throughout course work on different systems in various applications. Students will be prepared to work as lead instructional designers, instructional technology developers/directors, and evaluators of instructional design projects, processes, and outcomes in corporate, higher education, K-18, and other instructional/training environments. Many students in this track go on to further studies in the Educational Computing Doctorate program. A specialization is available in Instructional Systems Design and Distance/Distributed Learning. |
Teaching and Learning with Technology Teaching and Learning with Technology is designed for educational professionals serving in administrative, teaching, and research capacities in a variety of educational settings. The degree emphasizes application-oriented technology skills that are valuable for independent study and research, classroom learning, personal, and professional projects. Course work focuses on theoretical foundations, technology skills, technology integration strategies for teaching and learning, active research, innovations in technology, and paradigms for effective online delivery and assessment. Students in TLT are immersed in digital learning by actively demonstrating effective uses of technology to improve teaching and learning, and evaluating appropriate technology tools based on the needs of the student and the curriculum. Students study the ethical uses of technologies to solve real problems and develop a global perspective of technology and its impact on all areas of society. Graduates build skill sets that empower them to work in positions in K-16 and higher education. This track is aligned with the revised standards published by the International Society for Technology in Education, and it is accredited by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education). Four specializations are available: Technology & Autism, Technology & Brain-Based Learning, Technology Across the Life Span, and Emerging Technologies. |

Master's of Science/Master's of Education in Applied Technology, Training & Development
The Applied Technology, Training and Development Masters programs provide students an option of a Masters of Science degree or Masters of Education degree. The Masters of Science degree is designed for those professionals who are seeking careers in the field of training and development. Students seeking this option are advised to also earn the "Basic Corporate Training Certificate" and "Advanced Corporate Training Certificate" concurrently. The Masters of Education program is designed for people who are seeking careers in the Career and Technical education field. Students seeking this degree program are also advised to seek "Career and Technical Education Certification" concurrently.
