Computer Education and Cognitive Systems Minor

Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Applied Technology and Performance Improvement
The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree program, with a major in Applied Technology and Performance Improvement*, consists of 125 hours divided as follows: 42 hours in the University Core, 36 hours in an Applied Technology specialization, and 42 hours in Professional Development. The undergraduate program consists of required coursework in personal development, instructional strategies, leadership, basic and advanced computer technology, human relations and communications. The balance of the hours completed in the major are in consultation with the student's advisor. Within this degree is an option to pursue Career and Technical Education teacher certification at the secondary level.
Students in the BAAS degree program are preparing for careers in business, industry, government and education. This degree program is designed for students who have completed an associate degree in a technology program at a community college and/or have 3-5 years of employment experience in one of the fields of applied technology. Additionally, it is designed to provide a pathway for community college student to complete a bachelors degree program.

Occupational Specialization - 36 hours
The occupational specialization may be completed in an approved applied technology associate degree program at a community college. The sequence of technical courses will vary by the selected option.
For those students who do not have credits from a community college, but have obtained their occupational specialization via work experience an occupational competency testing service is available to all individuals interested in obtaining objective evidence of their competency. The test results can be used to acquire up to 24 hours of academic credit (NOCTI). The primary goal of the exam is to grant academic credit through an occupational competency examination. Please contact the undergraduate faculty advisor for more information.
The occupational competency examinations are developed by skilled craftspeople and test development specialists from every part of the nation. They are designed to evaluate the levels of knowledge and manipulative skills that a person has acquired in a specific occupational area as compared to other experienced individuals in the same area.
Each examination was reviewed by experienced craftspeople, then revised and pilot-tested. Competent people from each occupational area and candidates who have taken the examinations judged them to be fair, comprehensive samplings of the knowledge and skills required in the various occupations.
To be eligible for the occupational competency examination, you must satisfy the following requirements:
- Be admitted to UNT's BAAS degree program
- Have completed 3-5 years of wage-earning work experience in the area to be tested (Documentation of experience is required)

- For non-certification, the remaining 12 hours (3000 - 4000 level) are based on the selected program option

- A minimum overall GPA of 2.50 is required for graduation.
- Student are required to complete at least 24 of their last 30 semester hours at the UNT in residence. Residence UNT course can be online. Students may not concurrently enroll during their last semester
