A collegiate guide to Internet resources and information procurement. Topics include: connecting to UNT resources, peripheral selection and use, tips for purchasing and using application software, an overview of graphics software, applications of the Internet, HTML code, methods of establishing an Internet connection, netcasting, voice and video conferencing, PC-based troubleshooting techniques, electronic research, and information processing using Internet. 


LTEC 3000 - Foundations of Learning Technologies in STEM (3) 

This course focuses on learning across STEM Disciplines using a variety of technologies: cloud computing, mobile devices, MOOCs, virtual labs, etc. Students learn problem-solving and inquiry skills, and apply those to interpret, aggregate, and create arguments based on evidence. Real-world problems with data driven and focused outcomes are used to follow a process, develop a solution, perform analysis, and communicate findings. Prerequisite(s): None.


LTEC 3010 - Personal Development (3) 

Course provides opportunities for students to develop themselves professionally. Special emphasis is placed on image development for a chosen career and strategy development to launch that career. Time management, money management, business etiquette, selecting mentors and role models are also addressed. 


LTEC 3100 - New Horizons for Learning Technologies in STEM (3) 

This course focuses on innovative and emerging technologies and their use in STEM Disciplines. Students use gamification, immersive learning environments, wearable technologies, and other tools to explore conditions of learning, transfer, motivation, ability, and learner characteristics across STEM. Prerequisite(s): None.


LTEC 3200 - Leadership and Ethical Practices for STEM Professionals (3) 

This course is a study of contemporary leadership practices, ethical issues, and team dynamics related to STEM occupations. It focuses on evidence-based leadership practices while addressing ethical practices that future leaders in STEM occupations might face along with best practices on how to manage in multidisciplinary group environments. Creation of web-based materials incorporating text, graphics, and multimedia elements. Emphasis on use of standards-based technologies for creating content for web-based delivery. 


LTEC 3440 - Introduction to Instructional Technology (3) 

Introduction to class presentation and teacher productivity systems, including graphic, audio, video and computer-based materials. Laserdiscs, videotapes, LCD systems and computer software for the classroom. 


LTEC 3530 - Data Communications (3) 

Foundational skills in data communications. Covers the basics of computer networking, including terms and concepts, contemporary network services, transmission media, and protocols. Students learn how protocols are used in networking implementations from many vendors, especially those most common in today's LANs and WANs. 


LTEC 3610 - Principles of Team Science (3) 

This course provides students with an overview of team science and how this field of science applies to the workplace. Students will gain an understanding of evidence-based practices that apply to team and small group settings and will learn how to apply these practices to the workplace. The fundamentals of teams and their processes will be covered along with introducing students to various tools that could be applied to team and small group settings in the workplace. LTEC 3620 - Team Building (3) 

This course introduces students to the different types of teams and their processes. Students will learn systematic approaches to team building, including planning, implementing, managing, and completing the teamwork processes. Students will become familiar with the six enabling conditions that create team-friendly work environments. Students will learn different team building tools, the role that diversity plays in successful teams, and will be introduced to some of the challenges to teamwork. Prerequisite(s): None 


LTEC 3630 - Team Dynamics (3) 

This course focuses on describing, exploring, and understanding all things related to human groups. Being able to successfully work in a team/group environment is critical in today's age of complexity. This course identifies the characteristics of a team, studies different team related theories, identifies how to manage or lead teams, and highlights how to optimize a team's overall performance. As an interdisciplinary topic, this course covers evidence-based literature from the disciplines of anthropology, biology, psychology, sociology, and other social sciences. Prerequisite(s): None 


LTEC 3640 - Leadership and Team Leadership (3) 

This course provides a study of leadership theories, leadership styles, and leadership development techniques. Students will begin with a historic overview of leadership research from trait-based theories to complexity leadership theory. Students will focus their attention on learning team-based and collective types of leadership theories. Following, students will learn different practices and techniques in leadership development and will learn to apply some of these techniques to developing leaders in the workplace. This course focuses on evidence-based leadership and leadership development techniques while addressing current issues related to: ethical leadership, power, diversity, leader-member interactions, and leadership development evaluation. The role of small business and the utilization of technology for performance improvement will be addressed along with the advantages and limitations of small business ownership. Small business planning and operation will be explored through the development and use of technology.

This course will explore the project life cycle of defining, planning, executing and delivery. Students will learn and apply the processes and methods of project planning, management and evaluation through a simulation activity. Examines the role and responsibilities of career and technical education professionals as well as the importance of creating a classroom and laboratory environment that fosters a positive learning climate. The role and responsibilities of career and technical education professionals as well as technology applications, effective time management, standards for student conduct and teacher liability are addressed. 


LTEC 4140 - Work-Based Learning in Career and Technical Education (3) 

Study of the basic standards and recent changes in work-based learning. Emphasis is placed on developing materials to effectively facilitate the work-based learning component of a workforce education program. 


LTEC 4160 - Advanced Computer Applications in Education and Training (3) 

Course is designed as an advanced preparation for students preparing to enter organizations in education or training that utilize modern computer-based technologies that include: graphic applications, telecommunications, networking, programming and computer-based training. 


LTEC 4200 - Performance Improvement in Education and Training (3) 

Introduction to the history, theory and practice of human performance technology in education and training. Explores the systemic process of analysis, intervention development, change implementation and process valuation involved in performance improvement. 


LTEC 4210 - Digital Multimedia in Education and Training (3) 

Production of multimedia materials using digital video and audio production techniques. Project management teams, instructional design, editing techniques, digitizing, using a video camera, and production/post-production techniques are covered. 


LTEC 4230 - Directed Occupational Internship in Industry or Training (3) 

(2000 clock hours equals one year of experience or 8 semester credit hours.) Supervised individual work experience in a recognized occupation or field of specialization. Course Information: For those who meet the necessary state-mandated requirements for years of work experience these credits can be granted for successful completion of an occupational competency examination. May be repeated up to 24 hours of credit.

LTEC 4550 - Network Systems Administration (3) 

Study of file and print network services in a directory services environment. Topics include server configuration, user management, resource allocation, risk management, and disaster recovery. 


LTEC 4560 - Internet Services Administration (3) 

Design and implementation of Internet information services including FTP, NNTP, World Wide Web, and streaming media. Conferencing using H.323 and T.120 standards-based systems. Students both design and build various information services using representative software tools and hardware platforms. 


LTEC 4610 - Team Cognition (3) 

This interdisciplinary course focuses on describing, exploring, and understanding human cognition in social settings. This course explores the meaning of cognition with emphases on cognition as a shared activity rather than just an individual activity. This course covers evidence-based literature from other cognate disciplines such as anthropology, biology, computer science, psychology, sociology, and other social sciences. LTEC 4620 - Team Decision Making (3) 

This course provides overview of individual decision making techniques then extends the conversation to include group level decision making techniques and theories. Students will be able to identify and distinguish between various problem types (i.e..., simple problems, complex problems, wicked problems).  Students will learn how to address complex and wicked problems using different group decision making tools and processes. This course covers coaching tools and techniques focused on coaching (i.e.., individual members, teams, and groups of teams). This course reviews coaching and how coaching can be applied in the workplace to aid teams perform more effectively and to manage its own resources and team processes. Students will gain an understanding of some coaching skills and will learn specific coaching techniques that can be applied to teams and small group settings in the workplace. This course is intended for students in the last semester of MS LTEC program. The course will aid students to produce a professionally viable portfolio and associated online materials that can be used to seek a position or advancement in the instructional design, training, or workforce development field. Students will reflect on prior academic and professional performance, make presentations highlighting elements of their portfolio, engage in peer reviewing, use relevant social media tools, and prepare for job interviews.

LTEC 5670 - Distributed Leadership (3)

Provides an overview of the primary evolutionary trends in leadership for students to gain an understanding of what leadership is and how it is relevant for today's workplace. Students delve into the concept of leadership as a collective/social construct rather than an individual construct. Distributed leadership is then introduced to students providing specific perspectives on leadership and leadership development at each of the four different levels of analysis (individual, teams, multi team systems, organizational). 


LTEC 5701 - Foundations of AI in Learning Analytics (3) 

This course introduces how artificial intelligence has been and is being applied to improve learning, instruction and performance. Relevant concepts and terms are elaborated and defined. An overview of the history of artificial intelligence in education is provided that includes intelligent tutoring systems and the development of learning analytics that can be used to individualize learning activities and resources to achieve optimal outcomes. Differences between machine learning, data mining, learning analytics, and intelligent tutoring and performance support are explored. Representative policies will be discussed, and representative technologies will be demonstrated to provide students with a broad understanding of what is possible using current and emerging technologies. 


LTEC 5702 - Applications of AI in Learning Analytics (3) 

More and more education institutions now see the value of leveraging the enormous and continuously growing data from their learning management system (LMS) and computer-based learning environments. Learning Analytics (LA), as well as related methodologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Educational Data Mining (EDM), explores the relation- ship between learning system usage and a range of outcomes that can positively impact students, teachers, administrators, researcher and learning system designers. This course is designed to help students to learn fundamental EDM/LA concepts and techniques, and how those techniques can be used in solving important problems in education.

LTEC 6250 - Learning Technology Systems Design and Management (3) 

Study and analysis of facility design, organizational patterns, administrative strategies, and alternative structures for achieving and evaluating media-based instructional and production components. Includes selection, procurement and control of hardware and software inventories. Management tools including protection of intellectual property, security issues and budgeting strategies are discussed. 


LTEC 6260 - Creating Technology-Based Learning Environments (3) 

Study of the design and development of technology infused learning environments. Develops understanding of constructivist philosophy of keeping students active, constructive, collaborative, intentional, complex, contextual, conversational and reflective. Prerequisite(s): LTEC 6230. 


LTEC 6270 - Developing Funding Opportunities in Learning Technologies (3) 

The ideal grant is a match between the needs of an organization and the desires of a funding agency. Students examine grants from both viewpoints and build on that knowledge to write effective grant proposals. In addition to investigating some of the logistics of grant-writing, this course examines the relationship between a granting agency and its recipients. 


LTEC 6280 - Learning Technologies Program and Project Evaluation (3) 

Provides students with fundamental knowledge and skills in the theory and practice associated with evaluating educational technology programs, projects, products, practices and policies. 


LTEC 6310 - Digital Game-Based Learning (3) 

Provides an overview of digital game-based learning. Major topics include educational benefits of digital games, game analysis, game design, constructionist gaming and gamification. Engages students in various authentic tasks, including creating an informative and persuasive infographic on the educational benefits of digital games, analyzing a digital learning game, designing a 3D game-based learning environment, and designing a learning activity that engages students in game design. In addition, students are expected to conduct a literature review on a topic of their interest. Each of the major assignments involves peer feedback and reflection. Prerequisite(s): None. 


LTEC 6480 - Research Seminar (3) 

An orientation to basic methods of doctoral dissertation research in applied technology, training and development; including the scientific methods as a basis for analysis and interpretation of results. Students begin preparation of a dissertation proposal in the field of applied technology, training and development. 


LTEC 6510 - Introduction to Research in Learning Technologies (3) 

Students will be introduced to research in the field of Learning Technologies and Information Sciences. Students will survey introductory research and analysis in these fields of study. Prerequisite(s): None. 


LTEC 6511 - Analysis of Research in Learning Technologies (3) 

Students will analyze current research in educational computing as a tool for understanding the unique characteristics of technology based research activities in educational environments. Special consideration will be given to strategies for separating influences in research designs that incorporate technology as tools and as variables in the design. Students will also identify potential dissertation research topics and prepare preliminary reports that will be critiqued in class in preparation for doing the dissertation. Prerequisite(s): LTEC 6510 or consent of advisor.


LTEC 6512 - Analysis of Qualitative Research in Learning Technologies (3) 

Students will analyze qualitative research in Learning Technologies and Information Sciences as a tool for understanding the unique characteristics of technology and information based research activities in the fields. Special consideration will be given to research approaches that examine learning technologies. Students will also identify potential dissertation research topics and prepare preliminary reports that will be critiqued in class in preparation for doing the dissertation. Prerequisite(s): LTEC 6510. 


LTEC 6514 - Seminar on Advanced Research Topics in Learning Technologies and Information Sciences (3) 

Students will examine and analyze advanced research topics in Learning Technologies and Information Sciences. The range of research analysis topic(s) to be covered by the course will be determined by the instructor. Prerequisite(s): LTEC 6511. 


LTEC 6515 - Advanced Research: Scaling Methods (3) 

Students examine and analyze advanced research topics in learning technologies. The range of research analysis topic(s) to be covered is determined by the instructor. Prerequisite(s): LTEC 6511. 


LTEC 6516 - Advanced Research: Computer Mediated Discourse Analysis (3) 

Covers the role of digital communicative acts in education and provides students with the experience of using CMDA to analyze data toward a goal of future publication and research. Prerequisite(s): LTEC 6512. 


LTEC 6700 - Practicum/Internship (3) 

Supervised professional activities in the profession. Students will spend a pre determined number of hours working with an appropriate site in education or business. During class meetings, students will review practicum experiences and analyze issues associated with a career in the profession.
